Day (29) of 365

My niece is getting cuter by days. Let the picture do the talking :).

Got down low to be on her level. Reduce the noise on Photoshop and blurred the background more. Did not want to use flash on her, so no flash means high ISO.

Camera settings: ISO 1600 | 24-105@70mm | f/4.0 | 1/8 sec.

Day (28) of 365

I will be posting many pictures of my niece in this 365 days photo project, simply because she is so adorable and cute. Some say that the first few months are the time when you can really see the change in shape of new born babies. I definitely do not want to miss that, so am gonna try my best to take Aqilla’s picture every single day. #fingercross.

New born babies sleep most of the time, which means that it is difficult for us photographers to get that precious moments when their eyes are wide open looking at us. I boosted the ISO really high to the max. at 1600 to quicken the shutter speed. Used a long focal length to get real close to her. A macro lens would be wonderful for this type of shots. Unfortunately, it is still in my wish list of lens :(.

Camera settings: ISO 1600 | 24-105@84mm | f/4.0 | 1/40 sec.

Day (27) of 365

A few days ago I did a photoshoot of my bro and sis at Maja House. The view was beautiful  from up there looking down to the city. Had a chance on day 27 to shoot the city light from the same spot. It was simply magnificent. Surely, I will have another shot at it in the future.

Took the shot from a balcony in the middle of the night. Raised the ISO just a little bit to 400 to allow me to use a larger aperture without adding too much noise to the image. Put the camera on a tripod and used a large aperture to get as much details as possible. Did not have a remote shutter release so could not shoot a long exposure shot (damn!).

Camera settings: ISO 400 | 10-22@10mm | f/8.0 | 20.0 sec.

Day (26) of 365

The following shot was actually taken on the wednesday. I am going to cheat a little bit here by posting the image on day 26, simply because I like the image very much and I do not want to put it on day 25 since it is dedicated for my niece. Anyhow, HBD Rizky Yoga Pratama.

This is actually a composite image. Put my camera on a tripod, turn on the on-camera flash and shot several pictures. The flash actually helped to delay the shots time to approximately one second so me and my friends had time to change poses. Picked the best expressions of each and everyone of them, and mask them in Photoshop.

Camera settings: ISO 1600 | 10-22@10mm | f/3.5 | 1/50 sec.

Day (25) of 365

Wednesday was the birthday of many people I know and the day I became an uncle! I feel more mature already :D. Please welcome Jasmine Aqilla Sulaiman to our world. She looks so much like my brother.

Couldn’t get inside the room to take a close up of Aqilla. The lamp lit the box just right, I really like the warm tone. Shot using a long focal length to get close to her. Wanted to show the lamp and the birds on the wall so decided not to crop it out.

Camera setttings: ISO 200 | 24-105@92mm | f/4.0 | 1/30 sec.

Day (24) of 365

Had a busy week. Was able to spend some of the time to photograph different things but didn’t have time to post process. I am going to do it NOW before it piles up even more. Tuesday was the first day of uni after a long holiday. When entering the class, we were presented with not one, not two but three massive, thick folders (bantex). So this semester will be all theory. Great! #sarcastic.

Shot this inside the trunk of my car. The black background comes from the leather-ish floor of the trunk. Experimented with different angles to make it interesting. Used on-camera flash with -2/3 compensation to light it up.

Camera settings: ISO 1600 | 24-105@28mm | f/4.0 | 1/20 sec.

Day (23) of 365

Sister-in-law asked me to photograph her, my brother and their soon to be born baby before it comes to our world. Went to Maja House Cafe, high altitude, to get the view of the city. Took several shots of them and the 9 months tummy. My brother likes this shot so I am uploading it. Will be expecting the baby in a few days so we are very excited of it.

Taken during cloudy day. Used on-camera flash to create a dramatic effect. Tweaked the lighting a little bit in Photoshop too.

Camera settings: ISO 100 | 10-22@10mm | f/3.5 | 1/100 sec.

Day (22) of 365

Sing Cung Kyi Hi! Happy Chinese New Year for those celebrating it tomorrow. So in a few minutes, it will be the start of the year of the dragon. I am a dragon myself if you care to know :). As a tribute, I am posting an image of the Sam Poo Kong Temple located in Semarang, Indonesia.

Didn’t bring my wide angle lens then so had to take a few steps back to get the temple as a whole. Note to self when travelling: always bring the wide angle lens.

Camera settings: ISO 100 | 24-105@24mm | f/8.0 | 1/125 sec.

Day (20) of 365

A friend of mine from university invited the whole of my class to Sumedang. Had a great time there fishing and breathing the non-smoky urban air. While observing the beautiful green, rural scenery, I noticed a farmer was throwing some fertilisers to his farm. It took him so much time to fertilise just one patch of the farm. Farmers spend so much effort and time to grow these farms and yet they are paid so little. The next time you eat your rice, spend some time to think about them and what you can do to help.

The sky was cloudy so I had to raise the ISO a little bit to get some exposure while maintaining a reasonable shutter speed to freeze the action. Tried to keep the shot candid so the longest focal length was used to get some distance from the farmer.

Camera settings: ISO 400 | 24-105@105mm | f/4.0 | 1/160 sec.
